This is an excellent post. Having worked for non profits for sometime you are right on the money (or should I say lack of in most non profits). Although their intentions are to be commended I have yet to find one that runs there organization with some originality. The raffles, open houses, and continuous expectations for staff to give of time and money is almost as annoying as the lack of accountability.

I think that this post has a lot of insight. It is amazing at how many things need to be looked at in a financial aspect to become more successful. Setting goals, or having a to-do-list can really put things into perspective and make it easier to see what needs to be done. And the bottom line is a very important focal point which, when made the most important thing to look at, seems to have everything else in front of it fall in line.

This too is the first time I have read and replied to a blog. I felt that this blog was very insightful because often people feel that their idea and pitch is so spectaculur they only need one pitch to reach all mediums. This article brings light to having a quality pitch, focusing on making different pitches to different mediums, and pitching to approriate outlets. Great blog!

This will be the first blog I have ever read. I think this is a great blog as far as I can tell. I have learned about the pitch in Public Relations this semester. She puts it in great context for me! I especially like the example of the playboy and just because men read it shoud we put examples in it. I thought that was great!!

I thought your post was quite insightful and agree that internal communication acts -- or at least should act -- as the glue that keeps an organization together.

Thanks for the interesting post...to elaborate on your mention of NorthCoast 99, it's an annual recognition program that honors 99 great workplaces for top talent in Northeast Ohio. The winners are chosen objectively based on an extensive application.

And you are quite right, work/life balance is one of the things that makes a company a great place to work. I invite you and your readers to visit our blog, Where Great Workplaces Start, for more information on building a great workplace: http://greatworkplace.wordpress.com.

I also invite you to visit the NorthCoast 99 website that has information related to the award, now in it's 10th year: http://www.northcoast99.org.

Thanks again!

I need a coffee break, too!

After working for a nonprofit for nearly three years, I couldn't agree with you more. All too often in the nonprofit world employees take a back seat to the illusive donor. Don't get me wrong. Donors are important. But when an organization is providing a service, which most nonprofits do, employees have to be on board with the mission.
